Sun, Rain, and Reading for 6-8 year olds

Sun, rain, and reading is this week’s theme! Bibi loves the sun and reading, and she wants to learn about the advantages of rain to the world.

Watch the introduction video in English and Spanish and enjoy some read-aloud videos.

Cosas que podemos hacer juntos

Enjoy some of our recommended activities!

  1. Shadow drawing – choose some toys or items to take outside, a piece of paper, and something to draw with. Stand the toys/items next to the piece of paper, so their shadow falls onto the paper. Encourage your child to draw around the outline of the shadow. Take the picture inside and let them add the details and colors to their picture.
  2. Shaving cream clouds! Spray shaving foam on a surface, and draw pictures on it with your finger.
  3. Anoten la temperatura y el clima cada día por una semana para observar si hay algunos cambios.
  4. Make your sundial with a paper plate and stick. Check it every hour to draw where the stick’s shadow falls on the paper plate.
  5. What melts in the sun? Take a muffin tray/paper cups (something you don’t mind potentially being ruined) and put items into each section. Leave outside in the sun, checking back every hour to see any changes.
  6. Learn more with our partner Austin PBS. Use the images in this interactive tool to observe weather conditions. Haga clic aquí

¡A moverse juntos!

Salgan afuera. ¿Qué formas y dibujos pueden hacer con sus propias sombras?

“There are many benefits to getting some sun and rain, not to mention reading books. All three make for a perfect day in Texas!”
