Reading is Out of This World for 6-8 year olds

Have you ever wondered if there is life out there, in space? Do you think that one-day people will live on other planets? Right now, there are people on earth working hard to get people all the way to Mars. Space is just so vast. It’s hard to even talk about it! Let’s read more about it in a lot of books!

Watch videos, download books to read together, and explore things to do with BookSpring.

Things to Do Together

Talk: can you name all nine planets? (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) What other objects are in our solar system? Think about the sun, moon, stars, meteors, and things we send up into space like rockets and satellites!

Write: Write about which planet you would like to travel to and why

Experiment: Do you know that the moon changes shape? Take a piece of paper and draw a picture of the shape of the moon every night for a month. What do you notice? Does the moon really change shape? Why does it look like it does?

Move: Play “Moonwalk”! Turn on some music and dance in slow motion, as if you were on the moon

Play: 10-1 blast off! Count backward from 10 to 1, and after 1 yell “blast off!” and have everyone jump as high as they can, or do it as a race and have everyone line up and run as fast as they can after 1

Share Together

At the end of the week, reflect on what you read, and what you did.

  • What did you learn about the solar system?
  • Would you like to travel to space as an astronaut?
