Summer Success 2022 Program Recap

Summer Success 2022 Program Recap

This May, BookSpring visited six campuses in three Central Texas cities—Austin, Del Valle, and Pflugerville—and distributed over 4,500 books to 564 elementary students through our Summer Success Program.

The program serves first and second graders enrolled in Title I schools and provides each child with eight books to take home and read over the summer. Six out of eight are curated for the child’s reading level and preferred language, and the other two are freely chosen by each student.

The goals of the Summer Success program are to increase book access at home, create a habit of reading, and prevent the summer reading slide. Two graduate students at Vanderbilt University studied the effects of Summer Success over three years. The results were positive: students that participated in the program earned significantly higher reading scores than students who did not participate.

This year was a great success! Thank you to all our volunteers and librarians who helped make it possible.
