GE employees make an impact

GE Aviation of Austin hosted their first volunteer event with BookSpring. Over 70 employees helped build literacy through the community on Tuesday, December 20.

“We have been in Austin (as GE) for a little over 4 years. This is the first time we’ve done a volunteer event,” said GE Flight Data Engineer Patrick Thornton, adding, “We really would like to keep this happening. I think we had a great turn out and everyone loves helping out!”

Austin area schools Ortega, Dawson, Galindo, and Blackshear hosted volunteer groups which assisted with book giveaways, read alouds in the classrooms, and inventory and shelving assistance for the librarians.

Another group spent some time at the BookSpring office processing ReBook donations in preparation for the new year.

Thornton said, “Supporting literacy is very important. Supporting the community is huge. Literacy is big in Austin with the multilingual culture we have.”
