Austin’s early literacy advocates step up to provide “Happily Ever After’s” for local children. Community and business leaders raised over $112,000 in support of BookSpring’s early literacy programs at the 6th Annual Storybook Heroes Luncheon on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.

Grammy nominee and “Musician with a Message” SaulPaul was the special guest. He inspired and motivated attendees with his story about the impact books and education had on his life. SaulPaul is an ambassador helping spread the word on the importance of book ownership and reading aloud as a family.

BookSpring recognized United Way for Greater Austin and Kaye and Randy Patterson as this year’s Storybook Heroes awardees.

United Way for Greater Austin has been the leader and backbone of the Success By 6 initiative in Austin for over a decade. BookSpring has worked with Success by 6 since the very beginning and has been a funded partner since 2010.

Since 1977, Kaye and Randy have been working to get families reading and succeeding together. From volunteering with BookSpring’s elementary and preschool programs, fundraising and assuring program quality; Kaye and Randy have been instrumental to BookSpring’s success and the distribution of over a million children’s books in greater Austin.
