H-E-B is Committed to Literacy Efforts

Our friends at H-E-B at N. Lamar and Rundberg have a little more in store for teachers and families preparing for back to school. TODAY (Friday, August 7) 500 in-store and Curbside shoppers will receive an extra “surprise and delight” as part of the retailer’s back-to-school initiatives – a free book from Read3, no purchase necessary. A variety of English and bilingual book titles to be distributed!

Read3, an H-E-B literacy initiative, focuses on educating parents and caregivers about the need to read to their children a minimum of three times per week. Read3 collects books through book drives and in-store donations to distribute to children in Texas. This year, customers can donate books purchased in stores through “Combo Loco” promotions to the Read3 annual book drive, beginning August 5 – August 18. Since 2011, 1.5 million new or gently used books have been collected for children in need.

In the Spirit of Giving

In celebration of their recent Curbside opening, the store presented a $5,000 community gift in support of our BookSpring Delivered initiative. BookSpring Delivered continues to mail a curated selection of books and provide other FREE resources to families in need in Central Texas.

“H-E-B is passionately committed to literacy efforts and to customers beyond the four walls of its stores, creating an undeniable Spirit of Giving. With this spirit in mind, I’m happy to announce a donation of $5,000 to BookSpring,” said Felicia Peña, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager for the Central Texas Region. “With this gift, we will reach even more young readers and help BookSpring continue to build early literacy in children and families through healthcare, education, and the community.”

We are incredibly thankful for H-E-B’s ongoing commitment to supporting literacy in our community!
