That’s a wrap on the 2022 Family Readathon!

Congratulations to all Family Readathon participants!

Readers rose to the challenge to read a total of 90,253 minutes in February. They also fundraised to share the joy of book ownership with children who need more books at home. Over the years, BookSpring has opened this special reading event up for our entire community through a partnership with The Library Foundation.  The goal for BookSpring and The Library Foundation is to spread the love of reading while encouraging community service throughout the Greater Austin area.

Engaging Readers and Building Support

Over the years, parents and librarians have shared how the Family Readathon has helped their children increase their motivation to read.

“My daughter loved the readathon! She is learning to love reading, and this helped motivate her.”

Now members of our community participating enjoy engaging their family and friends in a cause near and dear to them.

“I was able to get more family and friends from *afar* involved in donating, so I think this was a great experience, and I’m going to try to build a team next year.”

And the winners are…

We proudly announce that Cedar Creek Elementary was the Top Reading School this year! Students read 33,939 minutes, with Vasundhara V as the Top Reader with a whopping 15,347 minutes read.

Gullet Elementary was the Top Fundraising School! Students and staff raised $4,134.18 to support BookSpring’s mission to build early literacy and help The Library Foundation support programs and collections at the Austin Public Library.

We are thankful for all participants at Sanchez Elementary, Galindo Elementary, Doss Elementary, Friends of Eanes Elementary, Oak Medows Elementary, and Presidential Meadows Elementary. Thank you to the participants in the Top Teams BookSpring, Book Stars, Bookopolis, All My Favorite Colors, and Badgerdog.

Thank You!

We couldn’t do it without the help of our donors, volunteers, librarians, readathon coordinators, and readers! “We are grateful for our sponsors’ continued support for this unique community event that brings the love of reading and community service together to help get books into the hands of children who need them,” said Emily Ball Cicchini, Executive Director.

A special thank you to our media sponsor, Austin American Statesman, and our generous sponsors Whataburger, Bookopolis, Amy’s Ice Cream, Atmos Energy, Tiff’s Treats, Reedesign, Armanino, and Little City Software.

We hope you will join us for the 2023 Family Readathon! Whether you promote it to your neighborhood school or book club, gather a group and participate as a team, sponsor, or join as an individual reader, you will help put books into the hands of kids who may not otherwise have them.
