Things to Do Together
Talk: Talk about what “independence” means and what it means for a whole country to be “independent.”
Write: Write about what you or your family likes to do on the 4th of July. You could make a list or tell a story of a memory you have from the past 4th of July, or anything else you’d like to write about!
Play: Red, white and blue tag! Find some items that are red, white, or blue. Give each player an item, and the first player to collect an item from all three colors wins! You could use pieces of paper, rubber bands, plastic cups, or really whatever you have on hand as long as you have red, white, and blue items.
Move: Go on a flag hunt! The American flag can be found all around your city and neighborhood–take a walking tour by your school, library, post office, bank, Capitol, or other buildings that display the flag. See how many you can find! Spanish instructions Aqui
Watch: the Fourth of July fireworks display in Washington DC (our nation’s capital!) The show starts at about 1:38
At the end of the week, reflect on what you read and what you did.
- How did you celebrate the 4th of July?
- Did you learn anything new about this national holiday?
