Have you ever heard of the word Opposites?  It means two things that are totally different from each other:  Like Up and Down.  Or Red and Green.  Or Big and Small.  There are so many!  I love to think of opposites and everything in between!  Can you think of some opposites?  Let’s look for opposites in a book!

  • What does “opposite” mean?
  • Is there anything you’re too big to do?

Alto y Bajo

  • Who is the tallest member of the family?
  • Who is the shortest member of the family?

El sol y la luna

  • Which is your favorite: day or night?
  • Can you think of other opposites in nature?

Un Hombre Muy Alto

  • How did the neighbors help the Tall Man in the story?

El Otro Lado

  • What are some things that are ‘heavy’? 
  • What animals or insects are ‘slow’? 
  • Which are ‘fast’?

Things to Do Together

  • Play the opposite game where you say “the opposite of …. is ….” and your child fills in the blank. Take turns with your child and see how many different opposites you can think of. 
  • Choose a selection of toys – can your child sort them into big and small or hard and soft?

Ways to Move Together

  • A great game to play is “Red light, green light, or Stop and go”. When you say the green light is on then your child can move around the room, but when the red light comes on they must stop and freeze! 

Share Together

At the end of the week, reflect on what you read, and what you did.
