Things to Do Together

  • What is a community? A community is a place where people live, work and play.
  • Talk about how the people in these jobs help others.
    • Construction workers
    • Farmers
    • Doctors/nurses
    • Firefighters
    • Garbage collectors
    • Mail carriers
    • Teachers
    • Veterinarians
    • Dentists
    • Hairdressers
    • Plumbers
  • If you have sidewalk chalk either draw some fires or let your child draw them. Have fun “putting out the fires” using a watering can or hose!

Way to Move Together

  • Choose a few of the helpers from the stories you read or talked about. Can you move like they do?
    • Garbage collector – stand up straight and pick up an imaginary trash can from one side. Twist your body to put it down on the other side of you.
    • Baker – hold your bowl with one arm and use the other to stir the batter you are making.
    • Pilot – sit with your legs out straight in front of you. Lift your arms out on either side and pretend you are flying.
    • Teacher – pick up your imaginary chalk/marker and start writing on your board – make sure you write from left to right!

Share Together

At the end of the week, reflect on what you read, and what you did.

  • Did you learn about any new jobs this week?
  • How do the people you learned about help you?
