Books for All Seasons for 6-8 year olds

Bibi here.  Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall.  The four seasons are a wonderful cycle, a pattern that repeats year after year after year.  Hot, cold, dry, or rainy, you can count on the beauty of each season.  Just like books, they’ll always be there to help you, even as they change.  It’s always a good season to read a book!

Watch videos, download books, and explore things to do with BookSpring.

Read Together at Home

Here are some books to read together!  You can download and save them and keep them forever, to read again and again.

  • Cuckoo Wants to Sing
    • Why can’t the Cuckoo sing during the monsoon season?
    • How does the Cuckoo feel about not being able to sing?
  • Did You Steal My Chestnuts?
    • What happened to Squirrel’s chestnuts?
    • How would you feel if you lost one of your belongings?

Things to Do Together

  • Learn more with our partner Austin PBS: Play the Super Seasons Snapshot Game
  • What are the four seasons? Can you name them in order starting with winter? Practice saying all the seasons’ names: winter/spring/summer/fall. Talk about which season we’re in right now and why you do/don’t like the season from right now.
  • Practice writing the names of the seasons and then drawing a picture of elements that go with each season (snow, sunshine, flowers, swimming, back to school, rain, Halloween, etc)
  • Dress up for the seasons! Go to your closets and grab different items like sunglasses, coats, boots, umbrellas, gloves, hats, swimsuits, beach towels, scarves, and other things you can think of that you’d use in different seasons. Set a timer for 30 seconds and call out a season name and put on as many items as you can for that season!
  • Get outside and find out what this season looks like by you! Take notes on the climate, nature, and how it feels outside. Is it cold? Wet? Dry? Are there flowers blooming? Can you see your breath? Are you wearing a jacket or sunglasses?

Share Together

Reflect on what you read and did at the end of the week.

  • What did you learn about the seasons?
  • If you could make it any season right now which would you choose and why?
