The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

The Hate U Give is a fantastic YA novel that I believe that a lot of teens would enjoy reading. The Hate U Give provides a broad perspective of the real world and that everyone should be treated equally and to stand up for what you believe in.  It sends a powerful message through the main character, Starr, who does everything in her power to get justice for her friend, Malik.  This book is excellent!

I Am Not Your Perfect Daughter by Erika L. Sanchez

In the book I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, Julia is a 15-year-old girl from Chicago that has always been compared to her sister, Olga. Olga is portrayed as a perfect Mexican daughter to their parents and their entire family. She never gave them trouble, attended church, and was always home, and Julia’s parents expected the same thing for Julia. Then a tragic accident happens that Olga didn’t survive and the more searching Julia does, she realizes that her sister wasn’t as innocent as everyone knew her. In this book, it is written about what Julia goes through after the loss of her sister, from trying to convince her parents that she can’t be the perfect Mexican daughter they expect her to be, to finding love and trying to find herself as she goes through her personal struggles. I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter is an excellent read that is a very enthralling story.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

We Were Liars is a book of mystery that you won’t want to put down. 18-year-old Cady Eastman and her family had spent every summer on their Martha’s Vineyard private island since she was a little girl. Cady spent every summer with her two cousins, Johnny and Mirren. After Cady’s aunt brought her boyfriend and his nephew to the island, they all became close friends very fast and gave themselves the name, “The Liars”.  When Cady was 15 years old, she got a major head injury and could not remember anything that happened to her, and woke up on the island not knowing anything about the summer before. The next two years she tries to gain back her memory, although no one will tell her the full story of what happened to her. This book has a shocking plot twist and it is so well written, you will not want to put it down.
