Keller Williams Realty International’s Legacy of Literacy

BookSpring staff and partners have become accustomed to eagerly anticipating the second Thursday in May!  Keller Williams Realty International (KWRI) is partnering with BookSpring for the fifth year in a row for their annual worldwide day of service, RED Day.

RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, is a special day when Keller Williams offices around the world shut their doors and dispatch thousands of volunteers out into the community to make a difference in the places they live and work.

Since RED Day 2014, that has meant that hundreds of employees and many of their family members from KWRI’s Austin office have dedicated their multitude of talents to supporting BookSpring’s literacy mission and to create a Legacy of Literacy in our Central Texas community.

KWRI volunteers truly understand that supporting literacy means providing a wide variety of services.  It can mean reading aloud to children, collecting books and donations for books to build home and classroom libraries, decorating school libraries to create exciting and comfortable reading environments, bringing books to life through theater, and creating the shelving and other tools needed to make books accessible!

Visit any campus hosting RED Day volunteers and you will feel the energy these volunteers bring as soon as you walk in the door! Walnut Creek’s librarian was overcome, “The whole KW team has made such a huge impression because of the kindness and sincerity every single one of them offers in their efforts to give back to the community. It is really an amazing thing to behold!”

RED Day planning for May 10th is well underway already; volunteers may be going out to campuses in May but their efforts last all year long! An online fund drive to purchase diverse books dedicated to social-emotional learning is going on now; you can make your own tax-deductible donation here!

Design plans are in the works for adding to murals at Perez and Wooten Elementary Schools, the theater group is putting together another children’s play, and the team is creating ideas to support Wooldridge Elementary’s Stress-Free Day to encourage students to relax and enjoy learning (among other things, of course)!

And, even after RED Day is done for the year, KWRI volunteers remain committed to their Legacy of Literacy with BookSpring!  Last year, volunteers supported BookSpring summer literacy projects at our Housing Authority sites and continued sending connections to valuable partner agencies and volunteers.

Since April is Volunteer Month, we are honored to recognize our friends at KWRI for their phenomenal commitment to literacy and to our community!  Thank you, Keller Williams, and hurry up May 10th!  We can’t wait for RED Day 2018!
