2017 Read-A-Thon gets Wild About Reading

Greater Austin area students get Wild About Reading for the 2017 Read-A-Thon!

With over 40 schools participating, the Read-A-Thon participation rates have increased tenfold since its launch in 2006. This goes to show that reading promotes more reading!

Read-A-Thon encourages the youngest of community members to serve their community and to share the joy of book ownership and challenge themselves and their friends to read a much as possible!

From January 23 to February 5, 2017, students and book lovers alike read and collect donations based on the number of minutes or pages read.

These donations support all BookSpring programs which build home libraries and create reading experiences for economically disadvantaged families.

Each year students showcase their artistic skills in hopes of having their artwork selected as the official Read-A-Thon logo. Harper F. and Emma D. from the Girls’ School of Austin are the 2017 Read-A-Thon art contest winners! Their amazing artwork was inspired by this year’s Wild About Reading theme.

KXAN is our media sponsor once again and we truly appreciate their commitment to early literacy! H-E-B Tournament of Champions is another sponsor. Chick-fil-a, Renaissance Women’s Group, McDonald’s, Austin Zoo, and BMC Software also contributed this year.

New to Read-A-Thon this year is Holtzman Partners and Austin American Statesman, who we are very glad to join us.We have some wonderful incentives again this year! Donors of incentives include Amy’s Ice Cream, WhataburgerGatti’s Pizza, and Nothing Bundt Cakes.
