Rx Programs Build Early Literacy Through Healthcare Partners
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that pediatric healthcare providers promote early literacy development beginning in infancy. BookSpring offers access to many cost-effective books and resources to support pediatric literacy throughout Central Texas!
By advising parents that reading with young children strengthens the parent-child relationships and prepares young minds to learn, it supports building language and early literacy skills before preschool. This early literacy intervention has long-term benefits for a child!
ReadWell
ReadWell provides Central Texas healthcare clinics with books to distribute during pediatric well-child exams. Parents are encouraged to read to their child through a prescription to “Read a book together 2x a day.” This motivational message encourages parents and caregivers to make a habit of reading together. At each well-child exam, patients receive an appropriate high-quality book.
Pediatric Literacy Kits
If you are a home visiting health care provider in Central Texas serving a population of low-income families, you also participate in BookSpringRx. We can customize titles and packages to suit your specific program’s goals. We have partnered in the past with Texas Family Connects and United Way of Greater Austin to provide books in the way of “Baby’s First Library” for distribution by the home-visiting nurses. Families can refill their prescription of books between visits
BookSpring is reaching out to families with children from 0 to 5 years old who want to refill their prescription of books between well-child visits.
