Great News! BookSpring is proud to announce our partnership with Austin Community College’s Student Government Association through their “I Can Read” program. Together with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa program, Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi and ACC Classified Employees, our community will provide high quality children’s books with care packages delivered to children from low-income families this holiday season. The deadline for money donations is November 14th, and November 23rd for book donations.
With the help of these kind organizations, BookSpring will provide books for underprivileged children in Travis County. We know that kids possess some of the most curious and thoughtful minds out there, and we strive to help them increase their curiosity and creativity through one of the most enriching activities, reading.
Through cash donations, BookSpring will also order a wide range of brand new classic and popular books, such as Dr. Seuss books or even Spanish books. We believe that providing fun and engaging material helps create a lifelong motivation to read. The suggested levels of these books bundles range from $10 – $50, but any monetary donation from you will greatly help. Every $10 you give provides four books for ownership.
The ability to read is a predictor of future achievement in education, as the inability to read is a predictor of terrible life outcomes such as incarceration and unemployment. Help break the cycle of poverty by giving books to children to read in their homes this December.
Our goal this year is to provide 7,000 books for children in need all around Travis County, which we will happily distribute in mid-December. If you have any books (new or used) that you would like to donate to this great cause, you can do this by simply dropping them off at our offices, which is located on 2006 Greenbrook Parkway, and note that you want your donation included in the ACC/BookSpring campaign.
We live in a diverse county, so multicultural and multilingual books will surely find a child who will be happy to read them, as long as they are age-appropriate and functional.
While books are a great gift to a child any time of year, help BookSpring, Austin Community College, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office Brown Santa program get books to the children who need them most this holiday season.
