BookSpring is proud to announce Michelle Heward as the new Reach Out and Read Program Manager.
Michelle began work with BookSpring on May 14, 2012. She brings 12 years of experience and accomplishments as a nonprofit professional, including five years coordinating the Reach Out and Read Program at the Children’s Assessment Center (CAC) in Houston, Texas. While in Houston, she was a board member of The Women’s Health Fund promoting healthy lifestyles for women and children.
Michelle earned a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston and obtained and holds licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She has practiced clinical social work for seven years providing therapy and social services to children and their families involved with child sexual abuse, the juvenile justice system, and foster care. Her skills also include managing relationships with 25 partner agencies involved with the Children’s Assessment Center, conducting psychosocial assessments and developing treatment plans. Most recently, Michelle worked at The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at The University of Texas at Austin as a Test Administrator collecting and analyzing data from post tests from four specific research projects to students in 2nd through 11th grade.
Having learned about the mission and purpose of Reach Out and Read “hands on”, Michelle became passionate about becoming a part of BookSpring and the Reach Out and Read Program. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Texas State University in San Marcos, and thus is happy to be back in Central Texas with her husband and two year old daughter. Michelle looks forward to serving the mission of BookSpring.
